When I have a bad day...

Have you ever had a day from hell? I’m sure you know the kind. From the moment you wake up nothing seems to go your way. You make clumsy mistakes, your disorganized, and your just cranky! Every one of us has our own way to unwind on a day like that. This week my unwinding has been happening in our art space.

When we moved into our house 7 years ago there was an old cabinet left behind. It was perfect for storing large paper and other such art supplies. I was excited about it from day one and couldn’t wait to get it in our art room. Initially we tried to move it, but it was really heavy and the top came off when you tried to lift it because it is only put together with nails. The reason this cabinet was left behind was obvious. We ended up leaving it in our laundry room for 7 years because it was so difficult to move. This last week we had a conversation that changed everything.

We were talking about ways to improve our laundry room in the future and what kind of nice shelving we could put up if we could only figure out how to move the cabinet. Suddenly Anthony had the greatest idea to put casters on the bottom so we could roll it into the art room. That same day we bought casters and made a plan. Over the next couple days Anthony worked his magic to put on casters and made the cabinet easy to move. The next part was more difficult.

We measured all the doorways we needed to get this giant cabinet through and we quickly discovered that it was too wide to fit into the one room we wanted it in. It was only too big by 1/4 inch, but still that’s too big. Once we got the cabinet to the opening of the art room we started focusing on a new plan. We tried to go in straight, then we tried to come in at an angle, but to no avail. Finally we took the casters off as well as the top that was just nailed on anyway. Then we removed 1 side of the door jam. I never would have imagined us going to this much work 7 years ago. The idea was frightening because we didn’t have faith in our abilities. After removing the casters, top, and door jam, we sat the cabinet on end and it slid right in. Then we put it all back together and it’s finally in its rightful place!

This may seem like a lot of work for a simple cabinet, but it was well worth it! Our art space is more organized than ever and it makes me feel at peace. When I had a bad day this week I just walked downstairs to our art space and felt the calm wash over me. It reminds me that we can do anything if we work together to overcome the challenges we face. Moving the cabinet has been a challenge that bothered me for 7 years and we finally figured out how to overcome it. After my bad day this became my inspiration to start over fresh and believe that it will get better. Our next step will be to redo the cabinet. If your enjoying our blogs please like and share so we know you want more. Until next time keep on creating!
